“WILD BILL” PRICE
1913 - 2006
“Wild Bill” with his 4 lb 3 oz lunker
caught at Trumbull at 4:00PM on
Monday
on the 17th in 1990 - it
would have won the derby!
With a great sense of sadness and loss,
we learn that “Wild Bill” Price passed
away on Sunday May 9, 2006, after failing to recover from his
most recent surgery.
We all
know and will remember “Wild Bill” for his quiet demeanor and his dry sense of
humor – as he was always even willing to poke fun at his own age. We should
remember him by remembering his excitement - just to be “back on the Fishin’
Mission again this year, especially given the options”. This is what Red wanted
to say………
"My dad was born Nov.
15, 1913 and he was 92 when he died. His full name was George
William Price, but he was nicknamed Bill all of his life. The majority of his
life, he was an electrical contractor doing large single family homes (his dad
passed away in 1948, so he took over some of the contracts that his dad was
working on and just stuck around). In the 30's he worked in a furniture
manufacturing plant (Angelus Furniture in LA) and when WWII broke out he was
rejected as 4F due to a weak heart (he made it for 66 more years before his
weak heart finally got him!). The furniture plant was converted to constructing
invasion gliders, so that's what he did during that period. He bought 22 acres
in Mariposa in 1953 for $2500. It had two cabins on it and he "lived"
with the dream to retire on the property which he was able to do in 1976, so he
got in 30 years of retirement."
